Autumn is a great time to have fun in the garden and complete fall yard projects. Here are some tips for fall in the Rocky Mountain area that will benefit your yard next year.

For Your Lawn
You should apply a winter fertilizer to your lawn to give it an extra boost of green in early spring. It will also create a healthier,more vigorous root system. You should also water your lawn occasionally. This will lessen stress and make your lawn greener through the winter. Mow your lawn to a height of about 2 to 2-1/2 inches for winter, which helps prevent snow mold problems next spring. If you had damage from moles or voles in the spring, apply repellant in those areas as late as possible, before snow stays on the ground.

For Your Landscape

Fall is the time to plant spring blooming bulbs. The most common bulbs for the Rocky Mountain area are tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, and crocus. It is simple to plant bulbs and they will provide your flower garden with early spring color. Spring flowers are an ideal way to cheer up your yard after a long drab winter. Make sure you fertilize the bulbs when you plant them. This will help make bigger plants with better blooms in the spring.
