Landscaping and Curb Appeal

Having great landscaping around your house is the easiest way to add curb appeal. There are many options for affordable landscaping that will make your property look great.

Before landscaping to increase your curb appeal, start by doing your homework and find out which plants are going to work best for your area. Don't spend time and money on plants that won't do well in your area. You will just end up removing them in the future when they don't perform well. Don't add features such as a waterfall or pond if you don't want to spend the extra time it will take for upkeep and maintenance. These features add interest to your curb appeal only if they are well maintained otherwise if they are not maintained they will distract from the overall landscaping design of your area.

Start with a good foundation of topsoil. Make sure you eliminate as many weeds as possible before planting. Trim any plants or shrubs that are currently in the area that you plan to landscape. Add color by planting a variety of flowers. A mixture of textures and colors in the plants and flowers works well in any landscaping. You might want to consider planting perennials instead of annuals. Perennials will typically cost you more initially but you won't have the expense of buying flowers every year. If you purchase your plants at the end of the growing season, you can not only purchase them at a discount but it will allow the plant to develop a good root system before the summer heat.

For weed control in your landscaped areas, use a landscaping fabric and then surround the areas in between your plants with mulch or bark. This will increase the curb appeal of your house, make your flower beds look attractive and will help prevent weeds.

Landscaping Small Yards

Landscaping small yards can be a challenge. Deciding whether you want a sunny or shady area or maybe a combination of both for your yard will determine the types of plants and flowers you will use.
