Planting a garden in a small space can be fun, rewarding and a great way to spend time outside. Gardening in small spaces takes planning but you'll be
rewarded with fresh, healthful vegetables for your efforts. In restricted spaces, gardening is usually something you do essentially for the sheer pleasure because you're not going
to have the space to produce acres and acres of produce. The smaller the gardening space, the fewer options you'll have for growing different types of vegetables.
One of the first things you need to do when planting a garden in a small space, is to determine exactly how much space you have available for the garden. Go out into your yard and
take a good look around at the area. Choose the perfect location for your garden and than start to make a plan. Determine how much time and energy you will have for gardening.
You also need to figure out how long the growing season is where you live because this will determine which types of vegetables can be planted. Look at how much sunlight your garden
will get and which direction it comes from. You'll need to figure out how to use the amount of sunlight your garden receives in the most productive way. For example, if your garden faces north,
and there are buildings or trees that will block the afternoon sum, you won't have as many plant options as you would with a garden that receives full sun most of the day.
Another consideration is your soil type. Is the soil dense, clay like or does the water drain through the soil so rapid that it's hard to keep in the moisture? Generally, the maller a
gardening area is, the better the soil needs to be. There are a number of products you can find out your local nursery to help solve most soil problems.
With just a little planning, planting a garden in a small space will be a great success.
Landscaping small yards can be a challenge. Deciding whether you want a sunny or shady area or maybe a combination of both for your yard will determine the types of plants and flowers you will use.
