Planting Your First Vegetable Garden

Planting your first vegetable garden can be a fun and rewarding experience. Following these few steps will help you experience a bountiful harvest in your first vegetable garden and provide excellent nutrition for you and your family.

Pick a location that receives at least 6 hours of full sunlight. If you don't have an area that receives this much sunlight every day you might want to consider planting a container garden that can be moved to receive the maximum amount of sunlight.

When planting your first vegetable garden make sure you use well draining soil. This rule applies where it's in the backyard or in a container. Your vegetables will not grow very well if they are constantly standing in water, most likely they will rot before they produce any vegetables.

If you don't have a lot of experience with gardening or you don't have a lot of time you can devote to your garden then you will want to start small. Having a smaller area to tend or a few containers to take care of will make your vegetable garden more enjoyable.

Weed your garden regularly. Weeds are easier to kill when they are small and haven't had time to spread their seeds.

Plant vegetables that you like to eat in your vegetable garden. Check with your local nursery to see what types of vegetables grow best in the area where you live.
